Repiping Services in San Jose, CA

A lot of homes around San Jose are still running on the pipes they were built with in the 60s and 70s, and that pipe is running out of road. Usually it shows up as a stain in the tub, a pressure drop nobody can explain, or a leak that gets fixed and then shows up two feet away a month later. Once that starts happening, most homeowners end up searching for repiping in San Jose — and that search is basically why you read this text.

Fuse Service handles that job daily. Full house, one bathroom, one bad section of galvanized under the kitchen — we look at what’s actually going on before we tell you what it’ll take to fix it. Call, request a quote, or book online, and we’ll come look at the property before anyone talks numbers.

Whole-House and Partial Repiping Services in San Jose

Some jobs need every pipe in the house pulled out. Others just need one bad run fixed before it takes out a wall. We do both, and we’ll tell you honestly which one your home actually needs.

Whole-House Water Repiping
This is a full swap — every supply line, main shutoff to the last fixture. Makes sense once pipes are old or damaged enough that patching one spot just buys you a few more months. Before we cut into anything, we map the whole system, so there’s no guessing partway through the job.
Partial Repiping
Not every house needs the whole thing torn out. Partial repiping fixes the section that’s actually failing and leaves the rest alone. It costs less, it’s faster, and for a lot of homes it’s genuinely the right call — not just the cheap one.
Galvanized Pipe Replacement
Galvanized steel was the standard decades ago, and by now most of it has aged out. The zinc lining wears away from the inside, the pipe narrows, and rust starts showing up in your water. We pull it out and put in PEX or copper, whichever fits the layout better.
Multi-Unit and Commercial Repiping
Apartments, small commercial spaces — these come with their own code requirements and tenants who still need water while work is happening. When we repipe in San Jose multi-unit buildings, we create the schedule around people living and working there, not the other way around.

Signs Your San Jose Home May Need Repiping

There’s almost always a stretch where something’s off with the pipes before it turns into an actual problem.

Leaks Keep Appearing in Different Areas
One leak, could be anything. A leak here, then another one three rooms over a few weeks later — that's the pipe material itself giving out, not bad luck.
Water Pressure Is Low Throughout the House
If it's low at every single fixture, not just the upstairs shower, that's usually corrosion or buildup narrowing the pipes from the inside.
Tap Water Looks Rusty or Discolored
Water that runs brown or yellow, especially first thing after the tap's been sitting, means rust has already gotten into the line.
Exposed Pipes Show Corrosion or Mineral Buildup
Worth checking the garage, crawlspace, or basement. Flaking, a greenish tint, white crusty buildup around joints — all early warning signs.
The Existing Pipes Are Reaching the End of Their Service Life
Galvanized steel tends to last around 40 to 50 years. Older copper isn't too far behind that. If your plumbing's in that range, get it looked at before it decides the timing for you.

The Steps Behind a Complete Repiping Project

Here’s roughly how a project goes from first call to finished walls.

Step 1: Inspect the Existing Pipe System

We check the material, the pressure, and look for active leaks so the quote we give you is based on what’s actually there.

Step 2: Define the Scope and Select the Material

Depending on what we find, we scope it as whole-house or partial, and land on PEX or copper for the new lines.

Step 3: Prepare the Estimate and Required Permits

You get a written number before anything starts, and we take care of the permit filing with the City of San Jose so it’s not on your plate.

Step 4: Install the New Water Lines

The team works room by room. So our techs always try to keep the disruption contained. That’s why there’s no need to worry about turning the whole house upside down at once.

Step 5: Pressure-Test and Complete the Inspection

Every new line gets pressure-tested before anything’s closed up, then a city inspector signs off on the finished work.

Step 6: Patch the Openings and Review the Finished Work

We patch whatever walls or ceilings we opened, then walk the house with you to make sure it matches what we said it would.

PEX or Copper? Match the Pipe to the Property

Almost every plumbing repipe comes down to this question eventually. Both materials hold up fine when they’re installed right — the better choice really depends on your budget and how long you’re planning to stay in the house.

FactorPEX RepipeCopper Repipe

Installation timeFaster, fewer jointsSlower, more soldering

Corrosion resistanceUnaffected by mineral buildupVery durable, can corrode after decades
Typical lifespan40-50 years50+ years
Best fit forMost residential jobsHomeowners who want an all-metal system

Most residential jobs these days end up going with a PEX repipe — it’s cheaper and quicker, and there’s less that can go wrong during install. A copper repipe still makes sense for people who want something more traditional and don’t mind paying more for it. We’ll go through both options with you during the inspection.

Why San Jose Property Owners Call Fuse Service

When people bring in repipe specialists, they’re trusting them with an open wall and a working water system at the same time. That’s not something we take casually.

Licensed, Insured, and Experienced
Over ten years working on homes across San Jose and the surrounding Bay Area, we’re still a fully licensed and insured contractor.
Clean, Respectful Work
Floors get covered, furniture gets moved and protected, and the site gets cleaned up before we leave each day. A repiping job shouldn’t be something you’re still trying to fix after we’ve gone.

We're just about to have our heat pump and new water heater installed, so I can't speak to that experience yet, but I had to say how helpful their sales rep, Jeff, was with all of my questions to get settled into a plan. I'm one of those people who like to know what's going on line by line, and his patience and knowledge was very appreciated!

I had a need to replace our 50G gas water heater. Received several quotes from various contractors. Fuse was the most cost-effective proposal. Quote included new Bradford White heater, new expansion tank (did not have one before), new gas supply line to the heater, new drain pan, new Corro-Protec powered anode to prevent corrosion, and city permit. Installation was smooth. Workmanship excellent. Passed inspection with no issues.

Update: In what I am pretty convinced was a total coincidence, shortly after the heat pump was installed our gas hot water heater stopped working. I couldn't find anything that the installer would have done to cause it since the symptom was that the gas flame would not stay on. I called Fuse to see what they had to say and within a hour two technicians came out to take a look. After a couple hours of troubleshooting they thought it might be the control board. Of note they didn't charge us for their time. The gas HWH was to be replaced by Fuse with a heat pump based HWH so it seemed silly to invest much effort. Unfortunately there wasn't one of their electricians available for a couple of weeks to install the needed sub-panel. On a follow up call to Fuse, I reminded them that we also have an EV charger in the garage that they might be able to temporarily "borrow" the circuit. The next day the team of Ronnie and Alex came out and installed the new HWH using the EV charger's circuit (having to use a public charger was a small price to pay to having hot water). Once again, a professional job with great attention to detail. Last week Zorik the electrician arrived as scheduled to complete the installation. He worked with me on where I would prefer the sub-panel be installed. Within a few hours, our EV charger was back in business. I appreciated that Zorik took the time to review what breakers were moved so that I could update my records. I was confident that the job (and the others) were all were properly compliant with the building codes. Worth noting, the technician from an independent company came out to do the duct work testing (which passed). As he was leaving the subject of Fuse came up. His comment was that they are the best in the Bay Area.

San Jose Permits and Inspections for Repiping

The City of San Jose requires a permit for most repiping work, plus a final inspection before it’s considered done. A water line repipe generally can’t be legally closed up without that sign-off. We pull the permit for repiping services in San Jose and schedule the inspection ourselves, so it’s one less thing you have to track down.

Schedule a Repiping Inspection in San Jose

If you’re not sure yet whether you need a full repipe or just a section fixed, that’s exactly what the inspection is for. Book a repiping inspection in San Jose and we’ll give you a straight answer, plus pricing you can actually plan around.
